Subject: Palm weevil's status in the US
Publicada: April 11, 2002
Source: USDA, APHIS state cooperators
In a news story on the red-ring nematode (Bursaphelenchus cocophilus) dated 1/24/02, it was stated that the nematode's main vector, Rhynchophorus palmarum (palm weevil), was present in California and Texas, USA. However, the records of R. palmarum in these states are outdated (1918), and the weevil has not been observed since that time. Therefore, this pest is not considered to be present in the United States.
