Resumen:

Importancia: El Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus ya se ha destacado en una notificación oficial de plagas (http://www.pestalert.org/oprDetail.cfm?oprID=569). El virus causa enfermedades en cucurbitáceas, tales como Citrullus lanatus (sandía) y Cucumis lunatus (pepino), lo cual puede ocasionar pérdidas económicas considerables (Liu et al., 2014; Shargil et al., 2016). También se ha detectado en las siguientes malezas que pueden funcionar como hospedantes reservorio: Amaranthus retroflexus, A. blitoides, Heliotropium europaeum, Chenopodium album, Portulaca oleracea, Solanum nigrum (Boubourakas et al., 2004) y Heracleum moellendorffii (Cho et al., 2015). Se ha informado sobre la presencia del CGMMV en partes de Europa, África, el Medio Oriente, Asia (Shargil et al., 2016), Australia (Tesoriero et al., 2015) y Canadá (Ling et al., 2014), y se ha detectado en Estados Unidos en California (Tian et al., 2014). El CGMMV puede transmitirse mecánicamente mediante semilla infectada y polen, así como en materiales contaminados, tales como suelo y desechos de plantas (Liu et al., 2014).

Preocupación: Una publicación reciente indica que, durante una encuesta del 2013, el Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus fue aislado de Amaranthus graecizans, A. muricatus, Chrozophora tinctoria, Moluccella laevis y Withania somnifera plants (Shargil et al., 2016). Este es el primer informe de esta especie de maleza como hospedante del CGMMV.
