Report:
The National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) informed about the eradication of the Mediterranean fruit fly [Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann)] in the urban area of Cancún, municipality of Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo, as more than three Medfly life-cycles have elapsed with no detections and as a result of the implementation of phytosanitary measures.
On June 19, 2023, an adult specimen of Mediterranean fruit fly [Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann)] was detected in the urban area of Cancún, Quintana Roo. Therefore, delimiting actions and containment were implemented with specific trapping lures and fruit sampling, with no records of additional pest detections. Eradication measures included fruit destruction and ground spraying with Spinosad selective baits.
Senasica, through the Plant Health Directorate, informs that in accordance with the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures 8: Determination of pest status in an area, the phytosanitary status of the Mediterranean fruit fly [Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) is absent: eradicated from urban areas in Cancun, Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
