APHIS Updates the Pale Cyst Nematode (Globodera pallida) Regulated Area in Idaho

Report:

Effective immediately, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is reducing the pale cyst nematode (Globodera pallida, PCN) regulated area by removing a 50.10-acre portion of a 56.28-acre PCN-associated field in Bingham County, Idaho.

APHIS is removing these acres because this land no longer meets the definition of an ‘associated field’ in accordance with 7 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) §301.86-3(c)(2); this 50.10-acre parcel is no longer in agricultural use.

The total number of PCN-regulated fields remains at 56, of which 31 are infested fields and 25 are associated fields. However, with these changes, the current PCN-regulated area in Idaho is 6,265.64 acres, of which 3,420.10 acres are infested fields and 2,845.53 acres are associated fields. The infested fields are within an 8.5-mile radius that spans a portion of northern Bingham County and southern Bonneville County.

APHIS will publish a notice of this change in the Federal Register. The APHIS Pale Cyst Nematode webpage lists the specific PCN-regulated areas.

Under IPPC standards, Globodera pallida is a pest that is present: not widely distributed and under official control in the United States.
