Report:
The panicle rice mite, Steneotarsonemus spinki has been confirmed in the municipalities of Tierra Blanca, Cosamaloapan, Tres Valles and Tlalixcoyan, States of Veracruz, thanks to surveillance activities by the National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA), National System for Phytosanitary Epidemiological Surveillance.
The Plant Health Directorate has performed management activities, offered training courses and outreach efforts targeted to growers and technical staff , it has also implemented research work to manage the pest.
Under IPPC standards, Steneotarsonemus spinki is considered a pest that is present, only in some areas where rice is grown and transient, actionable and under eradication.
